Monarchs Sweep Doubleheader From Hofstra

Hempstead, NY-- Old Dominion centerfielder Jimmy Miles singled home the game-winning run in the 12th inning to give the 15th ranked Monarchs(31-4/14-1) the 3-2 victory in the first game, and freshman Dan Hudson threw a complete game, 2-0, shutout in the second game of the doubleheader this afternoon at University Field. . With the two losses, Hofstra falls to 13-20-1 overall (5-10, CAA).
In the first game, both teams scored runs in the first and second innings, tying the game at two.
After the second inning, the game became a pure pitcher's duel between ODU starter Jason Godin and Hofstra's Will DeVito. Neither Godin nor DeVito allowed another run as Godin went nine innings, giving up just two runs on seven hits with 12 strikeouts. DeVito threw seven innings and allowed just two runs on five hits.
In the top of the 12th, Monarch shortstop Jesse Schoendienst reach on an error by Legregni and advanced to second as the errored throw went all the way into right field. Then, Miles lined the eventual game-winning single over the head of Legregni.
Jeff Denlea got the loss for Hofstra (3-5), while Dana Arrowood earned the win for Old Dominion.
Game two featured another pitcher's duel between ODU's Dan Hudson and Pride starter Patrick Rogers.
After five scoreless innings, the Monarchs were able to put a run on the board in the top of the sixth as Chris Keenan and Mike Zahm hit back-to-back doubles, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. ODU added another run in the eighth when Justin Gregula lined a single to right center that scored Dana Arrowood, who reached earlier on a walk.
Hudson picked up the win for Old Dominion, while Rogers (1-2) got the loss for Hofstra.
ODU travels to Maryland on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. game
