Monarchs Play Nationally Ranked Richmond & Clemson This Week

NORFOLK, VA. -- The Old Dominion Monarchs play host to the 12th ranked Spiders of the University of Richmond today at 3 p.m. in the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. ODU then travels to #19 Clemson for a three-game series this weekend.

ODU, 4-5 is looking to end a three-game losing streak. Richmond, 5-0 swept Virginia on Monday. The Spiders lost to Nebraska last year in the NCAA Super Regional three- game series.

Clemson (3-3) reached the College World Series last year. The game on Friday will begin at 4 p.m.

The Monarchs are led in hitting by Evan Chipman(Raleigh, NC.) at .444. He also leads the team in stolen bases with four. Senior Bandon (Ocala, FL.) Le Noir is hitting .393 with two homers and nine runs batted in.

The Monarchs will probably throw James Burok today against Richmond while All- American Justin Verlander (Goochland, VA.) along with freshman Ricky Shefka (Kinston, NC.) are scheduled to pitch this weekend at Clemson.

After the Clemson series, ODU travels to Charlotte for games on March 11 and 12, then compete in the N.C.State Tournament against Princeton, N.C. State and Oklahoma State March 14-16.
