NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion University head baseball coach Jerry Meyers announced that seniors Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.), Cory Toth (Chincoteague, VA.) and John Malbon (Virginia Beach, Va.) have been named captains for the 2010 season.

McAloose (Princess Anne HS) led ODU in hitting and ranked second in the CAA with a .413 batting average. The thirdbaseman earned All-CAA and All-District honors last year and is a pre-season All-CAA selection. He set a new ODU fielding mark for thirdbaseman with a .965 percentage with only six errors. McAloose hit six homers with 44 RBI.

Toth, a lefthanded pitcher from Chincoteague High school appeared in 13 games for the Monarchs. He fanned eight batters in five-plus innings against St. Joseph's and six against Wake Forest.

Malbon, a firstbaseman (Cox HS) had eight starts last year and knocked in runs against VCU, Marshall and East Carolina. In 2007, hit a game winning two-run homer in ODU's 5-4 win at VMI.

The Monarchs open the regular season on Feb. 19 with a three-game home series against Fordham.
