Norfolk Tides Defeat Monarchs, 5-0 In Bank Of The Commonwealth Classic

NORFOLK, VA--Jeff Keppinger knocked in two runs to lead the Norfolk Tides (New York Mets AAA) to a 5-0 exhibition win over Old Dominion University in the annual Bank of the Commonwealth Classic at Harbor Park. A crowd of 1,622 was in attendance.
Keppinger's groundout plated Angel Pagan in the third inning, then singled home Gerald Williams in the fourth. Pagan tripled home Jed Hansen in the third while Gerald Williams brought home Ron Calloway with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Mike DiFelice' groundout scored Craig Brazell in the fourth to finish the Tides scoring. The Tides pitchers threw for both teams.
Patrick Nichols, Keith Hahn, Justin Gregula and Dana Arrowood each had a hit for ODU. Nichols' hit was a lead-off double in the second inning. The Monarchs return to action with a three-game CAA series with James Madison beginning Friday at 7 p.m. in the Bud Metheny Complex.
