ODU Gets Fourth Seed In Upcoming CAA Baseball Tournament

RICHMOND, Va. (May 16, 2009) - The field is set for the 2009 CAA Baseball Championship, which will be held May 20-23 at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C. The ODU Monarchs will be the fourth seed and play tournament host UNC Wilmington Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Tournament action in the double-elimination event starts at Noon on Wednesday at top-seeded George Mason (40-10, 19-5 in CAA) faces #6 Delaware (27-18, 11-10 in CAA). At 3:30 p.m.,
#2 Georgia State (35-20, 12-9 in CAA) takes on #5 Northeastern (28-23, 13-11 in CAA). The opening day wraps up with #3 UNC Wilmington (28-21, 10-8 in CAA) meeting #4 Old Dominion (22-25, 13-11 in CAA) at 7 p.m.
The CAA regular-season race was one of the most competitive in history with five teams still battling for the final three tournament spots on the final day of the regular season.
Just 1.5 games separated second through eighth place in the final standings.
The CAA championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. The champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Championship.
