NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University’s head baseball coach, Joey Burney (Gloucester, VA.) followed by loading the bases after being hit with a pitch. After a pitching change, Jordan Negrini (Kihei, HI.) singled in Higgins, giving the Monarchs their first run of the ballgame.

Junior shortstop Tyler Urps then followed with a walk to force in Perez and draw ODU to within one run at 3-2. Senior Austin McGowan then came up big with a game-winning pinch-hit single up the middle that scored pinch runner Drew Coker (Chester, VA.) and Jordan Negrini.

Game-One of the series with UNCW was a pitcher‘s duel, where junior right-hander Dean Ali (Chesapeake, VA.) pitched eight innings, with just one walk and five strikeouts to lower his ERA to 1.98. Josh Eldridge had two of ODU's three hits on Friday night.

On Saturday, eight different Monarchs had one hit on the day. While on Sunday, Josh Negrini led Old Dominion with two hits.

The Monarchs return to the diamond this Wednesday night, when they will take on Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. The Monarchs will then travel to JMU for a three game series in Harrisonburg beginning on Friday.
