Monarchs Defeat VCU, 11-7

NORFOLK, VA. - Kevin Snapp(Yorba Linda, CA) knocked in three runs and Ryan Harvey( Riverside, CA), and Joe Moore(Woodbridge, VA.) each knocked in two as Old Dominion University (14-14/1-3) defeated Virginia Commonwealth University (21-12/4-1), 11-7 Saturday evening.
The Monarchs scored all 11 runs in the first four innings which included a six-run uprising in the second. Snapp doubled in two runs in the second and singled home a run in the third. Joe Moore single home two runs in the second, while Harvey singled in runs in the second and fourth innings. Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA.) scored three times on the night for ODU. He is now hitting .380 on the season and has scored 23 times.
VCU was led by Friday night's hero Bryan Gillespie with three hits, three runs scored and a run batted in. Jeff Parrish, the Rams RBI leader knocked in two more runs tonight with a single in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Old Dominion collected 13 hits (fourth time this year) on the night, while VCU had 12. Junior righthander Ryan Williams(Va.Beach, Va.) picked up his second win of the season with relief help from Needham Jones (Portsmouth, VA.) and Jonathan Tinkham (Chesapeake,VA.).
The two teams play the third and final game of the three-game CAA series on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
