Box Score

NORFOLK, VA. - Mark Fleisher's two-run homer in the top of the ninth broke a three-all tie and gave the Highlanders of Radford University (15-22) a 5-3 victory over the Monarchs of Old Dominion University (18-21).

Shaun House started the ninth off by reaching on a Monarch error. Then Fleisher hit his first home run of the season over the left centerfield fence.

Despite only having two hits until the ninth, the Highlander's pervious three runs all came on sacrifice fly balls. Fleisher's fly to left in the fourth plated Kellen Wohlford. In the sixth inning, Wohlford picked up two RBI's with a sacrifice fly as Nat Hodges scored, then Alan Ashworth came home all the way from second.

ODU scored first as Ryan Harvey (Riverside, CA.) hit his fourth homer of the season to left field. In the third, Kevin Snapp (Yorba Linda, CA.) singled home Harvey. In the bottom of the eighth with Radford leading 3-2, John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) led off with a double and scored on Mike Croley's (Jupiter, FL.) sacrifice fly. ODU had nine hits on the day, but stranded ten runners.

Dave Eddinger gets the win in relief, his fourth of the year, while Kevin Evans is the loser. Starting pitchers Justin Tubb and Ken Brumfield (Danville, Va.) were solid. Tubb fanned seven with three walks in six-plus innings, while Burmfield, who beat Radford back on April 11 fanned five, walked only one and gave up two hits.

The Monarchs return to action Wednesday night when they travel to N.C. State for a 7 pm. game in Raleigh. Radford hosts UNC Asheville on Saturday in a Big South doubleheader, beginning at noon.
