ODU Loses At Longwood, 11-4

FARMVILLE, VA--Sophomore Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.) knocked in two runs for the Monarchs, but Longwood defeated Old Dominion, 11-4 Tuesday evening. Baker along with Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va. )and Austin McGowan (Midlothian, Va.) each had two hits on the evening.

ODU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Donnie Corsner doubled to left to score Austin McGowan. In the fourth inning Baker singled through the right side to plate Nathan Hartman (Orlando, Fl.) , then doubled home Joe Velleggia (Monkton, MD.) in the sixth inning. Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) later singled home Baker in that inning to complete the scoring.

The Monarchs had ten hits on the night, while Longwood 13, but ODU left 11 runners on base and the Lancers only six.

Phil Cerreto led the Lancers with three hits and three RBI. Lancer catcher Robby Newman hit his fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Longwood took the lead with five runs in the third highlighted by a two-run double by Justin Lacy.

ODU travels to Raleigh, NC., to take on the Wolfpack of N.C. State Wednesday night in a 6:30 p.m. Contest.
