Liberty Defeats ODU, 8-4

NORFOLK, VA-The Flames of Liberty University used 11 hits led by Phillip Laurent and Jeff Brown to defeat the Old Dominion University Monarchs, 8-4 Wednesday Night at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. ODU is now 10-11, Liberty is 11-10.
Brown doubled home a run in the first and one in Liberty's five-run fifth. Laurent Laurent singled both Jeremiah Boles and Ryan Engelhardt. Laurent finished the evening with three hits and three runs scored.
In the third inning, Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) scored on a throwing error, while in the fourth freshman catcher Tyler Belcher (Bristol,VA.) singled home Steven Harris (Va. Beach, VA.). The Monarchs added a run in the six as Brandon Carter came home when Liberty missed pick-off attempt at first on Harris. Joe Moore (Woodbridge, VA.) scored ODU's final run in the ninth on a throwing error.
Michael Schaeffer picked up the win for the Flames, his second of the season. Liberty travels to Charleston Southern on March 26 for a Big South series, while the Monarchs host Towson in a three-game CAA series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.
