NORFOLK, VA (February 15, 2000) -- Old Dominion's baseball team shut out Howard, 12-0, Feb. 15 at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. The Monarchs scored 12 runs on 12 hits and improved to 2-2 on the year.

Old Dominion jumped out early by virtue of a seven run first inning highlighted by Joe Troilo's (Avondale, PA) two-run single. The bottom of the second inning saw two more Monarchs cross the plate as junior shortstop Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY) and sophomore first baseman Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ) led of the inning with singles and later scored.

Old Dominion added another run in their half of the third as Hummel walked, advanced to third on Brent Sollenberger's (Chambersburg, PA) single and then scored on Jeff Eure?s (Pillow, PA) single up the middle. The Monarchs wrapped-up their scoring in the fourth inning as sophomore catcher Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC) homered over the left field fence and David Villardi (Fishkill, NY) scored on a Musolf single.

The Bison's best scoring opportunity came in the seventh inning as they had runners at first and third with one out, but centerfielder Antonio Scott grounded into a fielder's choice, forcing the out at second and holding the runner from scoring, before short-stop Byron Espinales struck out.

For the day, Eure was 3-for-5 with three runs driven in, while Hummel was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Five Monarch pitchers combined on the seven hit shutout as junior J.D.
