ODU Loses To Virginia Tech, 10-3

CONWAY, SC--Bryan Thomas knocked in three runs, while Sean O'Brien and Steve Bumbry each knocked in two as Virginia Tech Defeated Old Dominion 10-3 in the first round of the Coastal Carolina Baseball Tournament. ODU is 4-1 and the Hokies are 1-0.

Virginia Tech scored four unearned runs in the first two innings. The Monarchs first run came on Chris Keenan's (Chesapeake, Va.) sacrifice fly which plated Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.).

The Monarchs scored two more runs in the eighth as freshman Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit his first collegiate homer with David Burns (Jacksonville, FL.) aboard.

Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE) led the Monarchs with three hits while Freshman Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) had two hits. The Monarchs Had ten hits on the day, but left eight on base.

Sophomore righthander Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, Va.) took The loss, giving up seven runs (only three earned). Greg Fryman with Relief help from Rhett Ballard picked up the win for the Hokies.

ODU returns to action on Saturday when they play tournament host Coastal Carolina at 12 noon.
