Robertson's Double Lifts Monarchs to 4-3 Win and a Share of First in CAA
WILLIAMSBURG, VA. (May 12, 2000) -- Ross Robertson's two-out double scored Tim Hummel and Jared Musolf )to lift the Monarchs to a 4-3 victory over William and Mary on May 12. Coupled with East Carolina's 7-6 win over UNC Wilmington, ODU is now in a three way tie for first place. UNCW, ECU and ODU all have 13-7 conference records. The Monarchs are 31-20-1 overall.
All-American candidate Tim Hummel put the Monarchs on the board first with a solo home run in the first inning. In the fourth, Jeff Eure (Pillow, NJ.) singled home Jared Musolf to make it 2-0.
The Tribe came back as Michael Brown knocked in Brian Rogers in the fourth, the Rogers scored the game tying run in the sixth on a single by Brendan Harris. The Tribes third run came in the ninth as Tim Jones singled home Matt McQuire.
Junior Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.) pitched a complete game, striking out six for his eighth win of the season. He is 6-1 in CAA games this year. Tribe starter and loser Whitt Farr fanned nine in seven innings of work.
Hummel had two hits on the night, his second started the Monarchs rally in the eighth. He is now hitting .400, while Jared Musolf is up to .413.
The two teams play the third and final game of the series Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va., at Plumeri Park. If ECU defeats UNCW and the Monarchs win, Old Dominion will get the top seed in next weeks tournament. If UNCW wins, they get first place.
