Jackson and Eure Lead Monarchs Past Spartans 7-3
Jackson scattered eight hits in pitching his second complete game of the year. He issued no walks and fanned only one batter as the Monarchs have won nine of their last ten games.
Eure singled home Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) in the third and tripled home Hummel in the fifth. In the first inning, Tim Hummel tripled home Joe Troilo (Avondale, Pa.) and Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) followed with a single to score Hummel.
The Spartans scored in the first inning as Eric Crozier tripled, then scored on Quinton Jones single. In the third inning, the Spartans to a 3-2 lead as Brian Smith doubled and later scored on a Monarch error. Terrence Bain, who reached on an error scored on a sacrifice fly by Crozier.
Hummel had two hits on the day, while Musolf only one. Hummel now takes over the CAA batting lead from Musolf with a .416 average, while Musolf is second at .413. VCU's Jason Dubois is third at .410. For NSU, Crozier finished the season with 47 runs batted in and Jones with 55.
The Monarchs travel to Durham, NC to play at Duke on Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m, then return home on Monday to play Radford at 5 p.m, and again on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The final game of the homestand is with nationally ranked Wake Forest on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
