GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 22, 2000) -- Old Dominion had four home runs on the night, including three in the fifth inning, and junior righthander Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.) won his seventh game of year as the Monarchs defeated No. 21 East Carolina 15-3 on April 22 in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action.

The loss by ECU coupled with UNCW's win over GMU puts UNCW in first, ODU in second and ECU in third.

The Monarchs (26-16-1, 11-6 CAA) took a 1-0 lead in the second as Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.) was hit by a pitch scoring Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.)from third with the bases loaded.

ODU added four more in the third behind Jeff Eure's three-run home run to give ODU a 5-0 lead. ECU rallied to cut the deficit to two, 5-3, in the bottom of the third. James Molinari walked, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before Joseph Hastings walked to put two on.

East Carolina (33-13, 9-5 CAA) then scored a pair as John Williamson belted a two-run double to the fence before Erik Bakich's double brought Williamson around. From there, ODU starter Shawn Weaver then settled down and did not allow another hit until the eighth inning. Weaver picked up the win by going 8.0 innings allowing just four hits and three runs with six walks and seven strikeouts.

In the fifth, the Monarchs exploded for seven runs. Travis Silver, David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.)and Jared Musolf hit back-to-back-to-back two-run homers to give ODU a 14-3 advantage.
