Triple-A Tides Defeat Monarchs, 7-1, In Metrocall Exhibition

NORFOLK, VA (April 4) - The New York Mets AAA affiliate Norfolk Tides pounded out 13 hits to defeat Old Dominion University April 4 in the annual Metrocall Scholarship game, 7-1 at Harbor Park.

The Monarchs, who beat the Tides last year got eight hits, including three from sophomore first baseman Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.). Two of the three hits were doubles. The Monarchs lone run came in the seventh as Joe Troilo (Avondale, Pa.) singled, then stole second and came home on a Tide error.

Other Monarchs with hits were David Valardi (Fishkill, NY.), Tim Hummell (Montgomery, NY.), Kevin Henninger(Va. Beach, Va.,),and Jason Greiner(Wexford, Pa.).

Joe McEwing had two hits,and knocked in two runs as did Kevin Baez. The Tides pitchers worked for both teams.

The Monarchs return to action April 5 when they host UNC Charlotte at 3:00 at the Bud Metheny Complex.
