BIRMINGHAM, AL.- (Nov. 8) Old Dominion University junior shortstop Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) has been selected to the third team Pre-Season All-American squad by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers for the upcoming 2000 season.

This past summer, Hummel was named to the prestigious Cape Cod Summer League All-Star squad as he led the league in walks (37), ranked third in on base percentage (.440), second in runs scored (38) and hit .275 with eight homers and 28 runs batted in. Players in the Cape Cod League use only wooden bats. ESPN's Peter Gammons mentioned Hummel on his BASEBALL TONIGHT SHOW as a probable first round pick for the June 2000 draft.

In the 1999 season, Hummel earned first team All-CAA and All-Region honors as he hit .368 with five homers, 62 runs batted in, and 21 stolen bases. The Monarchs were 38-17 and reached the finals of the CAA Tournament for the fifth time in six years.
