BROOKLINE, MA--Sophomore lefthander Andrew Leenhouts and reliever Chris Carmain scattered six hits with 15 strikeouts to lead the Huskies of Northeastern to a 4-1 CAA victory over Old Dominion (18-29/6-12) Sunday afternoon.
The Monarchs lone run came in the first inning as senior thirdbaseman Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) doubled to right field with two out and came home on a double by sophomore firstbaseman Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.). The hit for Baker extended his hitting streak to 21 games. Baker and senior outfielder Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va.) each had two hits on the day for ODU.
Matt Miller led Northeastern (11-25/4-14) with two RBI, followed by Tony DiCesare and Logan Gillis with one each. John Puttress had two hits on the day for the Huskies.
Leenhouts pitched seven innings allowing four hits, one run two walks and he struckout 12 Monarchs to run his record to 3-2. Carmain pitched the final two innings, fanning three and picking up his second save of the year. ODU loaded the bases in the eighth inning with two outs, but failed to score, as it was ruled the Monarch batter did not touch first base.
