Duke Rallies To Defeat Monarchs, 7-6

DURHAM, NC (May 7) --The Duke Blue Devils rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Old Dominion University on May 7, 7-6. The Monarchs drop to 28-18-1, while Duke is 15-36.

Down 6-4 in the bottom of the ninth the Blue Devils rallied for three runs on RBI singles from Larry Broadway and Wes Goodner and won the game with two outs when Broadway scored on a passed ball. Broadway also picked up the win in relief.

The Monarchs were paced by Jared Musolf(Lakehurst, NJ.) who hit a two-run homer in the seventh that game the Monarchs a 5-2 lead. Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) singled home a run in the top of the ninth which game Old Dominion a 6-4 lead. Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC) knocked in two runs with an rbi double in the second and an rbi single in the fourth.

Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.)got a no decision as he pitched eight innings, fanning six and scattering 11 hits. The Blue Devils hit two homeruns. JD Alleva hit a solo shot in the first and winning pitcher Broadway hit a solo shot in the eighth.

The Monarchs return to action on May 8 to host Radford at 5 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Complex.
