NORFOLK, VA-- Senior Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD) and junior Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL) each had four hits, and freshman Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, VA) won his first career start to lead the Old Dominion Monarchs to a 12-3 victory against visiting Rutgers on Sunday at The Bud. After Rutgers opened up a 3-0 lead in the top half of the third, ODU got on the board in the third inning when a Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA) single scored junior Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE). ODU would then tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the fourth when Miles sent his first career homer over the right field wall, scoring Schoendienst.

Old Dominion would break the game wide open in the sixth inning as the Monarchs would capitalize on four wild pitches, two errors, a hit by pitch, and four base hits to score six runs. Schoendienst, Miles, sophomore Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA), Zahm, junior Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY), and senior Justin Gregula (Washington, PA) all scored in the inning. Schoendienst collected two hits during the huge inning, a double and single.

The Monarchs would add three insurance runs in the seventh inning when Cipolla knocked in Keenan with an RBI single, Arrowood doubled home Zahm, and Gregula grounded out to scoring Cipolla.

Hudson picked up the mound victory in his first career start, going seven innings and giving up only four hits, no earned runs, and nine strikeouts. He has not allowed an earned run in 15.1 innings pitched in 2006. Lefthander Bryan Hansen worked two innings of scoreless relief for ODU, striking out three and did not allow a hit.

Schoendiensts' four hits on the day brings his season batting average to an impressive .516. Miles is now batting .441 in his rookie season and has 26 hits in his first twelve career games.

Rutgers' Matt Giannini gave up six runs and 11 hits in five innings of work to pick up the loss. Ryan Hill picked up a double and RBI to lead the Scarlet Knights.

ODU returns to action Wednesday as they travel to Longwood to take on the Lancers, before returning home for a weekend series with the Rhode Island Rams beginning Friday 7:00 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Complex.
