#10 Clemson Defeats Monarchs, 11-1
NORFOLK, Va. -- Clemson got 14 hits and some strong pitching to defeat the Monarchs of Old Dominion University, 11-1 Tuesday evening. The tenth ranked Tigers are now 15-5, while Old Dominion drops to 8-15.
Tigers starting pitcher Jarrod Schmidt went six innings for the win, fanning a career high nine batters. Kevin Lynn and Josh Cram pitched the last three scoreless innings.
Designated hitter Russell Triplett had three doubles on the evening and shortstop Khalil Greene and catcher Steve Pyzik had three hits on the day as well. Chad Coder knocked in two runs.
The lone Monarch run came in the fifth inning as freshman Allen Strick's (Glen Burnie, Md.) sacrifice fly scored senior Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.). Robertson led the Monarchs with two hits.
The two teams will play again Wednesday night at the Bud Metheny Complex, beginning at 7 p.m. The game can also be heard live on ESPN1310 radio.
