The Old Dominion University spirit squads were recognized with top honors over the weekend when the cheer squad received a silver bid and the ODU Dynasty Dancers team received a bronze to the 2015 National Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships. The squads attended the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Camp in Myrtle Beach, SC, a three-day event widely considered one of the top collegiate cheer competitions.
The cheerleaders received three “superior” ribbons for their routines, including Gameday and Rally, in addition to being named the “Most Improved Squad". The Dynasty Dancers received one “superior” ribbon for Gameday. More than 1500 participants competed, representing over 40 colleges and universities. With the silver and bronze awards, both squads will receive funding from NCA and NDA to attend the national competition hosted in Daytona Beach, FL in April, 2015.
“The camp provided an excellent opportunity for our Monarch spirit programs to showcase their hard work on a national stage,” says Spirit Coordinator Carmen Harris. " We are extremely excited to have been recognized by our national organizations and look forward to representing the University next April in the national competitions.”
