NORFOLK, Va. – The NCAA announced the qualifier allocations for the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
Each qualifying tournament was awarded a certain amount of spots per weight class based on current year data. The CAA was awarded 19 automatic spots this year.
Each wrestler was measured on the following: Division I winning percentage at the weight class, rating percentage index (RPI) and the coaches’ rankings.
For every wrestler who met at least two of the three criteria, his qualifying tournament was awarded a qualifying spot in that particular weight class.
Each qualifying tournament with ‘automatic qualifying status’ was awarded at least one wrestler per weight class, which will go to the tournament champion (even if they did not have any wrestlers reach at least two of the three thresholds).
NCAA tournament spots for each weight within the CAA will be awarded at the CAA tournament based solely on place-finish.
After the CAA tournament and all of the qualifying events have concluded, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will meet in person to select the remaining 40 at-large qualifiers, which will be announced on March 13. All weight classes will consist of 33 wrestlers. The at-large selections will be made based on the following criteria: head-to-head competition, qualifying event placement, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, RPI, coaches’ rankings and the number of matches contested at that weight class.

The NCAA also released the final of three coaches' panel rankings for the 2012-13 wrestling season. This third set of rankings will be one of the tools used during the selection process to pick the qualifiers for the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, starting on March 21.
Wrestlers are measured by winning percentage, rating percentage index (RPI) and coaches' rankings. The coaches' rankings are compiled by votes from coaches representing each qualifying tournament. In regards to these rankings, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a 'starter' at their weight class.
'Eligible' wrestlers for the Coaches’ Panel Rakings must have participated in at least five matches against Division I opponents and have wrestled within the last 30 days.
To be eligible for the RPI ranking, a wrestler must have a minimum of 17 Division I matches at a given weight class.
The Old Dominion University wrestling team has six wrestlers ranked in the final coaches' panel rankings/RPI.
