ODU To Host South Dakota State In A CBI Game Wednesday Night

NORFOLK, VA— The Old Dominion University Monarchs (16-17) will host a CBI (College Basketball Invitational) opening round game Wednesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. in the Ted Constant Convocation Center against South Dakota State of the Summit League.   ODU students will be admitted free with their ID.  All tickets will be general admission for $10.00.

ODU will play the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State 19-12/10-4.  South Dakota State is led by 6-8 Senior, forward  Jordan Dykstra (16.0 ppg./ 7.7 rpg.,); 6-5, Senior, guard Brayden Carlson( 15.1 ppg); 6-9, Junior forward  Larson Cody  (13.1 ppg/ 6.9 rpg.).  The Jackrabbits averaged 72.6 points per game and tied  for second in the Summit League.

The Monarchs finished sixth in Conference USA and  after a first round bye advanced to the tournament’s  quarterfinals with a win over Marshall. This will be ODU’s second appearance in the CBI.  The Monarchs played in the 2007-08 tournament, beating Rider, 68-65 in overtime at the Constant Center, then losing at Virginia, 80-76 in the quarterfinals.

The winner of the ODU-South Dakota State game will play the winner of the Oregon State-Radford game on Marsh 24th.   Also in the tournament are Wyoming-Texas A&M; Morehead State-Illinois State; Fresno State-UTEP; Princeton-Tulane; Hampton-Penn State; Stony Brook-Siena.  

The semi-finals will be March 26th with the Championship series (best of out of three) will begin March 31st.
