ODU Tops UNCW 74-63, Now 21-3

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Alex Loughton scored a game-high 18 points to lift Old Dominion past North Carolina-Wilmington 74-63 Saturday in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.
Kiah Thomas added 16 points, including 11-of-12 at the line, and Isaiah Hunter posted 12 points for the Monarchs (21-3, 11-1). Loughton added six rebounds.
Halston Lane scored 18 points and Mitch Laue had 12 points off the bench for the Seahawks (14-7, 9-2), who's four-game winning streak was snapped.
Hunter made a 3-pointer with 46 seconds left in the first half to put Old Dominion up 35-31 at the break.
The Seahawks closed the gap to two points early in the second half when Lane netted a 3-pointer with 17:39 remaining.
The Monarchs then scored eight unanswered points to push the margin to 10 points, with Brian Henderson's 3-pointer giving the Monarchs a 46-36 cushion with 16:08 left.
Lane hit the first of two free throws on a technical foul assessed to Hunter, but the Monarchs added five points on a 3-pointer by Valdas Vasylius and a layup by Loughton to complete a 13-1 run and give the Monarchs control the rest of the way.Not only did Loughton finish with 18 points, he completed three games this week with 59 points, and 28 rebounds in ODU's wins over Drexel, Towson and UNCW.
ODU shot 50 percent (8-16) from three point range as six different Monarchs hit atleas one trey. Hunter was 3-5 on the day to go along with his game high eight rebounds. ODU has now beaten the Seahawks three straight times in Wilmington, and six times overall in a row.
On the defensive end, ODU shut down UNCW, holding the Seahawks to 5-25 shooting from three-point range and .338 shooting from the floor. The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Newark, DE. to take on the Blue Hens of the University of Delaware at 7:30 p.m.
