NORFOLK, VA. (July 6) - Old Dominion University head basketball coach Jeff Capel announced July 6 that his son Jeff Capel, III has been named an assistant coach.

"I am thrilled to have Jeff join our staff, " said Capel. "He is an excellent teacher and will be a great asset to our young players, and in recruiting."

"I am very excited about getting into the coaching profession, " said Jeff III. "I have always felt that as a player I was a coach on the floor, because I had an understanding of the game. This is a great opportunity to coach with my dad who I respect and look up to. I look forward to the opportunity to help others become better players, be better people, and to help Old Dominion be successful."

As a freshman, he started 28 games as the Blue Devils reached the 1994 NCAA Championship game, losing to Arkansas. As a senior, Capel helped lead Duke as a number two seed where he scored 27 points in a first round win over Murray State and 26 points in the second round loss against Providence.
