Blaine Taylor Gets Contract Extension

NORFOLK, VA-- Jim Jarrett, Old Dominion University athletic director, announced today that Blaine Taylor, the head men's basketball coach has accepted an offer to extend his contract two more years through 2010-11 season. The previous extension was through the 2009 year.

"I am delighted that we will be continuing this great relationship with Blaine and Old Dominion University, " said ODU athletic director Jim Jarrett. "The program is enjoying tremendous growth under Blaine's leadership and I am particularly pleased with the type of student athlete he recruits and the quality of his ethics."

Taylor, who just completed his fifth season at ODU led the Monarchs to a 24-10 record and the semi-finals of the National Invitation Tournament. ODU compiled a 52-16 record the past two seasons. Overall, Taylor 93-58 at ODU and 235-124 in 12 seasons as a collegiate head coach. In 2005, Taylor was the Coach of the Year in the CAA and State of Virginia as the Monarchs won a school record 28 games, captured the CAA crown and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

"I am very pleased how things have fallen into place, "said Taylor. "My family and I have such fond feelings for the University, the people and the athletic program. I believe this shows a commitment for continued growth for the program, and validates that we are on the right path. This sort of stuff serves all of us as an opportunity to get optimistic and anxious as we look to the coming season and beyond."
