ORLANDO, FL-- Orlando Magic President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Vander Weide announced that Dave Twardzik ('72) has been promoted to the position of Assistant General Manager.

Twardzik served as Director of player personnel since 2003. He has more than 29 years of professional basketball experience as a player, coach and front office executive.

Twardzik along with Otis Smith (who was an All-Sun Belt performer at Jacksonville when ODU was a member) will be responsible for overseeing basketball operations, including player acquisitions via the draft, free agency and trades, player development, scouting and salary cap management.

Twardzik has worked in a variety of areas with several NBA team's basketball operations departments. He served as general manager of Golden State from 1995-97. Prior to joining the Warriors, he spent five seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, beginning as director of scouting in 1990.

A native of Middletown, PA., Twardzik graduated from ODU in 1972 and was twice named an All-American and helped lead the Monarchs to the 1971 NCAA Division II championship game in Evansville.

Twardzik is ODU's second all-time assist leader with 880(10.7) and eighth all-time scorer with 1660 (20.2).

He was honored at this year's CAA men's basketball awards banquet as an ODU legend. He is a member of the ODU and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fames.
