Brendan O'Hallarn, a public relations specialist in Old Dominion University's Office of University Advancement, "Lived Like a Monarch" last season, writing about the team behind the scenes. He spent a game as a manager, did the team's offseason fitness test, and followed the ups and downs of a dream season like every other ODU diehard.

Armed with that knowledge of the Monarchs, a rapport with the players and coaches, and an unquenchable love for college basketball, Brendan has a new project this season ... Monarch Basketball Insider.

Available at the homepage, (features section) Monarch Basketball Insider is a source for slice-of-life features from workouts, practices, games and meetings. The Monarchs return four starters from last season's team that finished 27-9, and play an exciting schedule, with the Georgetown Hoyas, Richmond Spiders and Dayton Flyers coming to Norfolk, a trip to play the University of Missouri, and a top-notch field in the Paradise Jam in the U.S Virgin Islands. That's not even counting the Colonial Athletic Association conference schedule, which is always "wild and woolly," as coach Blaine Taylor likes to say.

Check back frequently at the for updates on the men's basketball page feature section.

Brendan would love to hear from you this season, basketball fans. If you have thoughts, or an idea for an Insider profile - be it a player, team official or fan - please let Brendan know at

Go Monarchs! The first installment is on longtime associate coach Jim Corrigan.
