LAST GAME:
ODU lost at George Washington Monday night, 91-89. Pierre Greene led with 21 points and Rasheed Wright added 19 points. Clifton Jones led ODU with ten rebounds. With 4:55 left in the game, GW led 78-56. ODU went on a 33-13 run to cut the lead to the final margin. FIRST GAME: The Monarchs opened the season with an 84-57 victory over Gardner-Webb Saturday night. Twelve different Monarchs scored led by Pierre Greene with 14 points and four assists, Andre McCullum with 12 points and Michael Williams with ten.Rasheed Wright hauled in a career high 11 rebounds. The Monarchs started two freshman in Joe Principe (red shirt last year) and true freshman Troy Nance.

JEFF CAPEL-HEAD COACH:
(Fayetteville State '77), is in his seventh year at the helm of the Monarchs. He is 189-146 in his12th season and 110-81 at Old Dominion. Capel was the1995 CAA and NABC District IV Coach of the Year. In 1997 he was named Virginia College Coach of the Year. He won his 100th collegiate victory in the Monarchs 89-81 triple overtime win over ninth ranked Villanova in the 1995 NCAA Tournament. Capel was 16-14 in 1994 at NCA&T, losing in the NCAA first round to Arkansas. He compiled a 63-51 mark at his alma mater, Fayetteville State, taking the Broncos to the NCAA Div. II regionals in 1993. Capel was inducted into the Fayetteville State University Hall of Fame in 1999. His Monarch teams have reached the CAA finals three times, winning twice.

GIANT KILLERS:
In 1979-80, ODU defeated 3rd ranked Syracuse, 68-67 in Scope in an NBC regional telecast from Norfolk, Va.

On Jan. 10, 1981, ODU defeated unbeated and #1 ranked DePaul in the Horizon in Chicago, 63-62. It was DePaul's first loss in that building.

Nov. 1998, ODU lost to 3rd ranked North Carolina, 63-61 in Charlotte, NC.

Miami-Ohio 0-1, 60-58 in the 1993 NIT second round in Ohio. Georgia, 0-2, lost 95-85 in 1968-69 & 74-60 in 1981 NIT first round in Georgia.

ODU has never played Memphis, Indiana State, AU Puerto Rico, or Utah.

ODU IN PUERTO RICO:
This is the Monarchs third trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 1990-91, the Monarchs opened this tournament with a win over North Iowa, 63-61, then lost to Murray State, 76-61 and Illinois, 80-62.

In the 1996-97 Xmas Tournament, ODU lost to Nebraska, 72-66, then defeated SE Missouri State 74-61 and Mississippi State, 72-71 in overtime.

EXHIBITION GAMES:
Old Dominion split their two exhibition games. Defeating Court Authority, 87-85 and losing to Global Sports, 91-82. In the Court Authority win Pierre Greene led with 23 points, while Andre McCullum hauled in nine rebounds.

In the loss to Global Sports, McCullum scored 25 points and freshman Charles Dunnington grabbed 12 rebounds.

ODU will then play either Memphis or Miami-Ohio at either 4:30 or 7:00 on Friday. Also in the Tournament is Utah, Georgia, Indiana State and American Univ.-Puerto Rico.
