Game Quotes 2/12/03 UNCW (68) at Old Dominion (71)
Old Dominion University Head Coach Blaine Taylor:
"A year ago, our team was trying to pull upset specials and I'm very proud of our kids for pulling them this year. We did a real nice job in certain areas and kept Brett (Blizzard) off the free-throw line, making him earn the baskets that he made. Despite his efforts to draw fouls he only took two shots from the line." Our guys played smart and stayed on their feet to not commit fouls."
"We are capable of having a high shot percentage when we play smart. To have a chance to win is something to feel good about. We match up well with this team and I say that with the utmost respect for them (UNC-Wilmington). Wilmington has really been the trend setters for this league. Tonight, they knew what was up and they played really hard."
"I'm proud that they played really good team defense. So many young kids pin all their hopes and dreams on making a basket. John Waller really helped us win this game. He had 5 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals and didn't score a point. You can do other things than score."
Rasheed Wright, Sr. Forward: "It took a team effort in beating them for the second time this season. It's truly a great feeling to protect your home court against the top team in the league.
Brett Blizzard is a good shooter and we were looking for that and played him well. Whether it was me or John (Waller) guarding him, we were able to limit his opportunity for open shots."
UNCW Head Coach Brad Brownell: "This was a very competitive and physical basketball game. Both teams did a very good job on offense in the second half but we didn't do a good job on defense and it hurt us.
Coach Taylor does a great job with them, that's credit to him. I said in the beginning that it wouldn't surprise me if they were one of the top three teams, they did a very good job this evening defensively."
On Ricardo Marsh: "He's very good, not only a scorer but a good passer, he's a great player. He is one of the best post players in our league."
Brett Blizzard, Sr. Guard: "Great defense by Old Dominion, they did a good job taking me out of my game. I was taking shots that weren't a part of my game and I credit that to Old Dominion."
