Recap| Box Score

Old Dominion Head Coach Blaine Taylor
"I thought the difference in the game tonight was the experience. They were experienced and have experienced players down the stretch. We are kind of scratching at the surface. The game, the setting, it's just something we need to get used to. You can see our team is developing and growing. There was a lot of contact and the advantage goes to the heavier player. Alex (Loughton) was absorbing a lot of the contact. I think that he could have responded a little stronger than he did. Football is a collision sport while basketball is a contact sport and that is something that our kids have to learn to play through. Their experience played through."

"We have had two good teams, a great competition."

"We have got to continue to improve, keep leads, and be comfortable in those kind of games. Our kids have been pretty loose and enjoyed playing basketball. Tonight we played kind of tight and we can't be looking over our shoulder like that."

Freshman Forward, Valdas Vasylius
"I tried to get around him (VCU Senior Forward, Troy Godwin). I haven't played against big guys and it was hard. They (VCU) really played hard tonight, and the crowd was a great."

Senior Forward, John Waller
"When we stick with what we do to get our lead throughout the game, we have a better chance of keeping it. We changed up some things, took some bad shots, and I think it hurt us. We just need to shake it off and get ready for Saturday's game."

Virginia Commonwealth University Head Coach Jeff Capel
"First of all, it was a great college basketball game. This is a heck of a win for us, on the road, in this environment. Most importantly, we did it with defense. It helps when we have experience. Troy Godwin is really good especially with his size; Michael Dowels is the guy who has played well in great games; and Domonic Jones is one of the best players in the league. Troy (Godwin) maximized his minutes. He's such a big guy and we knew he was going to capitalize."

"We had a really tough four-game stretch. I really like the way our guys responded. We have been in a pattern of win a game, lose a game, win a game, lose a game. We've been moving on to the next game. Anytime you go on the road, you need to take care of the ball and make free throws and that is something that we did tonight."

"As a coach, you always want your team to get better and I think we still have room for improvement but I am proud of them. This is a big win for us. You always have to believe you are going to win. I think that's important. Our guys understand how to do that now; games like that, that situation, making big plays, especially with a guy like Domonic Jones."

Junior Guard, Michael Doles
"We knew ODU was in first place. We wanted to be in first place. We got the victory tonight and now we are. I have been practicing my 3's after each practice. Godwin gave me a good screen, Jesse hit me with the pass, and my shot felt good, just like practice. I always tell myself, "If you don't shoot, you can't miss." In the game of basketball, there are a lot of runs. We try to concentrate on defense and that brings out the offense. We have been cutting down on the turnovers in practice, too. It is always about defense with us. We have been staying after and getting comfortable with the free throw line."
