Lee and Finney Lead Monarchs over James Madison, 80-74

HARRISONBURG, VA.-- Gerald Lee scored 23 and Ben Finney 19 to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion (12-8/5-5) to a 80-74 victory over James Madison Wednesday night. Frank Hassel added 10 points and Keyon Carter scored 13 second half points for ODU.

James Madison(13-9/5-5) led by one, 33-32 at halftime. The Monarchs took the lead for good after a trey by Ben Finney made it 40-38 with 15:51 left in the game.

ODU's biggest lead was 13, 72-59 with 1:58 left, but the Dukes made one last run to cut the Monarch lead to three, 77-74 with 13 seconds left after a trey by Heiden Radner. Darius James then hit two free throws and Ben Finney one to put the game out of reach.

The Monarchs dominated the boards outrebounding JMU, 40-30 as Frank Hassell and Ben Finney hauled down eight rebounds each. Gerald Lee also had five boards with two blocked shots.

JMU wa led in scoring by Andrey Semenov with 16 points, followed by Kyle Swanston with 14. Swanston hit four three-pointers as well.

ODU shot a blistering .600 (14-23) from the floor in the second half and .491 (28-57) for the game. JMU hit .400 (24-60) for the game. Gerald Lee was seven-for 10 from the field, while Frank Hassell was five -for-eight and Finney was seven- for 10.

Junior guard Darius James dished out six of ODU's 16 team assists and Jonathan Adams added three. ODU also came up with nine steals on the night.

The Monarchs host George Mason Saturday night at 7 p.m.in the Constant Center.Saturday's game is also alumni night as past Monarch captains will be honored at halftime.
