ODU Defeats Barton, 71-49 In Exhibition Finale

NORFOLK, VA--- Senior forward Valdas Vasylius scored 21 points to lead the Monarch of Old Dominion University to a 71-49 exhibition victory over Barton College Monday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Vasylius hit on seven of 12 shots for ODU on the night as ten of the 12 Monarchs who dressed scored. Freshman Gerald Lee (Finland) led with eight rebounds as the Monarchs outrebouned Barton, 48-29. Junior guard Abdi Lidonde led ODU with a game high six assists and he also he two treys.

With the score, 19-13, with 11:45 left in the first half, ODU outscored the Bulldogs 19-9 the rest of the period to take a 38-22 halftime lead.

Barton, who reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight last year cut the Monarchs lead to seven at 40-33 as Alejo Burovero scored on a three -point play and Bobby Buffaloe hit one of two free throws with 16:46 left in the game.

ODU then got a three-point basket by Vasylius to put ODU up ten. ODU then went on a 12-4 run with Vasylius scoring six points during that stretch. ODU shot .441 from the floor,while Barton shot .308

Barton was led in scoring by Bobby Buffaloe and ALejo Burovero with 14 points each, while Brian Leggett scored nine points and hauled in a game high 11 rebounds.

The Monarchs open up regular season play Friday when they host Monmouth at 6:30 in the Cox Classic at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Clemson will meet Arkansas State at 9:00 .
