Georgia State Defeats Old Dominion, 68-64

ATLANTA, Ga. – In a game that experienced a total of 13 lead changes and six ties, it was Georgia State (5-2) who prevailed over Old Dominion (4-5) by a score of 68-64 on Saturday afternoon at GSU Sports Arena. ODU’s Zoran Talley recorded a career-high of 16 points on eight of 12 shooting from the floor to go along with five rebounds. Trey Freeman also netted 16 points (10-10 FT), while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists.

Old Dominion connected on 15-17 (88.2%) free-throws, but was 1-12 from deep, while Georgia State shot 53.8% (7-13) from long-range. The Monarchs outscored the Panthers in the paint, 34-18.

With 5:05 to play in the contest, the Panthers took a seven-point lead off two made free-throws, 57-50, which was their largest lead of the ballgame.

A Zoran Talley dunk brought ODU’s deficit to four with 2:55 left in regulation, before an Ahmad Caver steal led to two made Trey Freeman free-throws, bringing the score to 62-60 with 1:50 to play.

After four made GSU free-throws with 29 seconds remaining, the Panthers claimed a 66-60 advantage and ultimately a 68-64 victory on Saturday in Atlanta.

The Panthers were paced by Jeff Thomas’ 18 points, while Jeremy Hallowell went for 16 points and seven rebounds. Markus Crider also hauled down seven rebounds to go along with 13 points.

The Monarchs jumped out to an early 19-11 lead with 12:18 remaining in the first half behind six points from Zoran Talley and five points from Jordan Baker.

In a first half which experienced a total of 11 lead changes and five ties, it was the Panthers who took a 36-35 lead into the locker rooms with them at halftime. Trey Freeman and Zoran Talley led ODU with eight points. Markus Crider led all scorers with 11 points, while Kevin Ware followed with 10 points.

For the first half, Old Dominion connected on 48.1% from the floor, while GSU hit 47.8%. The Panthers were 6-11 (54.5%) from three-point range.

Old Dominion will be back in action on Wed., Dec. 16 at Richmond at 7:00 p.m. The contest will air on ASN.
