IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion University’s Galaisha Goodhope has been named one of just five members to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by conference officials on Tuesday. Goodhope is the only underclassman to garner this prestigious honor.

Goodhope holds an impressive 3.75 cumulative GPA as a biology major.

Joining Goodhope on the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic team are Academic All-Americans Ebony Rowe of Middle Tennessee and FIU's Jerica Coley, as well as FAU’s senior Kimberley Smith and junior Jamie Kaplan of Tulane.

Each honoree is making their first appearance on the All-Academic team. In order to be eligible for the distinction, nominees must hold a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key reserve for their team and at least be of sophomore academic standing.

Galaisha has excelled on and off the court throughout this entire season. She has started all but two contests for the Lady Monarchs and is second on the team for minutes played per game (30.2).

“GG” ranks in the C-USA’s Top-10 in four different categories: No. 10 for 1.9 steals per game, 4.3 assists per contest in conference play (No. 6 in the conference), 3.6 assists per game (leads team, No. 7 in C-USA) and +1.3 Assist/Turnover Ratio (leads team, No. 10 in C-USA).

Goodhope’s focus and determination is evident in the classroom and on the court, as the five foot five inch guard is averaging 3.6 rebounds per game. Not to mention that the Norfolk-native is netting 8.3 points per game.

Goodhope has had no problems balancing the full load of college science courses this year with performing brilliantly on the hardwood for Old Dominion. Against So. Miss., she recorded a career-high of six steals to lead the Lady Monarchs to victory in Hattiesburg, Miss., which snapped the Lady Golden Eagles’ 12-game home winning streak and gave USM their first conference loss of the season.

Goodhope’s stellar defense has been crucial to Old Dominion climbing to No. 5 in the C-USA for steals per game at 8.7. ODU’s high-energy and high basketball IQ sophomore guard has played a large part in the Lady Monarch’s great perimeter defense, as they hold opponents to just 28% from downtown.
