Keyana Brown to Play in Virginia’s All-Star Game on July 7th
NORFOLK, Va. – Lafayette High School senior and soon-to-be Lady Monarch Keyana Brown has been named to the 2014 Virginia 3A All-State Basketball First Team, as well as has been selected to play for the East Team in Virginia’s Annual All-Star Game, which will be held on July 7th at Lynchburg College at 6:00 p.m.
In March, Brown was also named the Daily Press Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the 2013-14 season.
Brown torched the stat sheets throughout her senior season averaging 23.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.3 assists per contest. Keyana did all this while playing for her father, first year head coach, Chris Brown at Lafayette High, as Chris guided a sub-.500 Lafayette team from a year ago to a 20-4 season this year.
After her junior season, Keyana transferred from Williamsburg Christian Academy, where she led the team in scoring and rebounding since being a starter in eighth-grade. Brown passed the 2,000-point career mark during her junior season. The Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association named Brown to the All-State First-Team for Division III.
As a sophomore in the 2011-2012 season, she was named the Division III Player of the Year. Brown was named to the Daily Press All-Stars for all four of her high school seasons.
“Keyana has a scorer's mentality. She has the ability to score in various ways,” exclaimed ODU head coach Karen Barefoot. “She can stretch the defense with her deep-range three-point shooting ability, she makes good basketball plays and is a strong rebounder.”
Brown is part of ODU’s No. 43 nationally ranked recruiting class, which ranks the highest in Conference USA.
