NORFOLK, Va. – Tristan Warner has been selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America Thursday morning. The Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The Academic All-District teams include student-athlete that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Warner is one of 10 student-athletes that were selected from District Three, which includes the states: North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

In March, Warner was named the sole recipient of the prestigious Elite 89 Award for the 2014 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship, as he currently holds a 3.98 GPA, while double majoring in Communications and Criminal Justice. The Elite 89 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships. Warner is Old Dominion University's first ever recipient of the Elite 89 Award.

In April, Warner garnered 2014 All-MAC Academic Wrestling Team honors, as only a total of ten student-athletes were named to the team.

Then last week, the Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania-native earned a spot on the NWCA Division I All-Academic Team. That same day, the NWCA announced that ODU finished the season with a 3.32 GPA as a team, which meant the Monarchs placed second in the entire country (highest All-Academic finish in school history) behind only top-ranked Harvard, who recorded a 3.3657 team GPA.

After sitting out last year with a medical redshirt, Warner returned to the mat this past season to qualify for his second NCAA Tournament. The redshirt junior finished the season with a 19-13 overall mark, 6-2 record in the MAC and went an impressive 12-6 in dual matches.

Warner and each Academic All-District honoree now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
