All ODU teams once again meet NCAA’s APR standards

NORFOLK - All of Old Dominion University's intercollegiate programs met the NCAA multi-year APR score of 930 standard and will be eligible for NCAA post season play for the 2014-15 academic year.  The NCAA national office announced today the 2012-13 NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) data, postseason ineligibility and penalty reports for all Division I institutions as part of the annual NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program. The latest APR data compiled the eligibility and retention rates for the 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years.

In comparing the recently released 2012-13 data, twelve of ODU’s sixteen teams also maintained and/or improved their multiyear rate from the previous year with three of those teams receiving national recognition in the NCAA’s press release last week; women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s golf.  Women’s golf has now earned NCAA recognition for three consecutive years.

“Our student-athletes continue to exemplify the academic and athletic culture that our academic support staff and coaching staff have laid the foundation for at our institution,” says ODU director of athletics Dr. Wood Selig. “Our student-athletes’ hard work on and off the field has paid dividends as all of our sport programs meeting and surpassing the NCAA standard.”

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) member colleges and universities adopted a comprehensive academic reform package designed to improve the academic success and graduation of all student-athletes. The centerpiece of the package is the academic measurement for teams, known as the APR.
