Meet The Staff: Performance Coach Eric Potter

September 17, 2013
By ODU Athletics

Eric Potter was named the Assistant Director of Sports Performance at Old Dominion University in early August.

Background: Potter moved to Norfolk over a year ago and had been interning with the Old Dominion football, field hockey and men's soccer teams for the past eight months. Over the summer he took over the strength and conditioning aspects of men's and women's basketball in the Jim Jarrett Athletic Building.

Eric Potter currently works directly with the ODU Baseball, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Soccer, Swimming and Diving, Sailing, and Women's Rowing teams. He also assists with Men's and Women's Basketball and Wrestling.

Q: Talk about what it means to you to work at Old Dominion University.

Potter: Right now, Old Dominion is in a great place athletically, especially with the move to a big time conference in Conference USA. All the sports have had a history of success and some are really thriving right now. Going along with that, the facilities for the athletic department are top notch and also a big draw for recruits.

Q: What do you think about being able to train the athletes at Old Dominion and specifically the women's lacrosse team?

Potter: Being able to train the athletes at Old Dominion has been awesome. I have only been working with women's lacrosse for several weeks and we are just getting past the basic stuff now but they've been great so far. They always have a great attitude in the weight room and are willing to listen to coaching on how to get better at what we are doing. We are lifting three times per week and doing speed and agility work two times per week. This is an extremely important and demanding time of the year for them since this is the time where the focus is on getting leaner, stronger, faster, and in better conditioning shape.
