Dr. Adela S. Roxas joined the Monarch family in 2010 as a Resident Clinical Psychologist. Currently she is a Clinical Psychologist, an Educational and Athletic Support Specialist and an Assistant Professor.
Dr. Roxas provides psychological consulting services to ODU’s Office of Educational Accessibility and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. She also supervises doctoral practicum students in the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology and students in the Master’s Program in Counseling at ODU.
Before joining the ODU staff, Adela completed her psychology internship at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk. During her time at EVMS, she provided psychological consulting services to EVMS’s Departments of Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation and Psychiatry.
Prior to her work studies at EVMS, Adela worked as a psychology extern at three different institutions in New York. She worked for The Parent Child Center of The New York Psychoanalytic Society, the Department of Psychiatry at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center and the Inwood Community Services (ICS), Inc.
Dr. Roxas has also worked as a member of the Family Therapy Team in the Family Studies Program at the New York University Child Study Center.
Born in Virginia Beach, she entered Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1985 and received a Bachelor of Science in industrial and management engineering in 1989.
Between 1989 and 2002, she worked as a management engineer, administrator and financial analyst for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
In 2002, Adela was accepted as a graduate student in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Fordham University, where she majored in Clinical Psychology.
