Four Monarch Swimmers Named To The CAA 25th Anniversary Team

RICHMOND, Va. (October 22, 2009) -The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its Silver Anniversary team in men's swimming and diving, which includes seven All-Americans, 13 former CAA Swimmers of the Year and a pair of CAA Divers of the Year.

As part of its 25th Anniversary celebration in 2009-10, the CAA is recognizing Silver Anniversary teams in 21 championship sports. The teams are selected by a panel of current and former head coaches in the conference.

Members of the CAA Silver Anniversary team for men's swimming and diving are:

Patrik Balint (Old Dominion), Dean Berman (UNC Wilmington), Adam Brenneman (UNC Wilmington), Frank Byskov (American), Cameron Charlton (George Mason), Matt Craven (Old Dominion), George Edelman (Richmond), Burak Erdem (UNC Wilmington), Roger Font (American), Ryan Frost (James Madison), Mark Gabriele (James Madison), Dan Gallagher (UNC Wilmington), Chris Hauth (American), Don Hosier (UNC Wilmington), Frederick Hviid (American), Glen Kaplan (Old Dominion), Tom Koucheravy (George Mason), Aaron Krause (Towson), Sergio Lopez (American), Shawn McLane (William & Mary), Tim Norton (George Mason), Randy Parker (James Madison), Anthony Perry (Drexel), David Tyler (James Madison) and John Wenham (Old Dominion).

Men's swimming and diving has been part of the CAA since its inception in 1985-86 and the conference has produced athletes who have competed well on a national and international level. James Madison owns a league-high nine CAA titles, including six straight from 1992-97 and three in a row from 1999-2001. UNC Wilmington has dominated the conference in recent years, capturing eight consecutive championships since 2002. American (1989, 1990), East Carolina (1986, 1989) and Navy (1987, 1988) also won a pair of CAA championships.

CAA MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING 25TH ANNIVERSARY TEAM

Patrik Balint - Old Dominion - 2004-08 - Budapest, Hungary
· Four time CAA champion in the 200 backstroke (2005-08)
· Received CAA Rookie of the Year honors in 2005
· Set ODU records in the 100 back, 200 back and 800 free relay

Dean Berman - UNC Wilmington - 2003-06 - Matthews, N.C.
· Selected as the CAA Diver of the Year in 2005 and 2006
· Two-time CAA Champion on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards
· 2005 NCAA Championship qualifier on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards

Adam Brenneman - UNC Wilmington - 2003-06 - Reston, Va.
· 14-time CAA champion, including two titles in the 50 free and 100 free
· Was a member of four winning relay teams at the 2005 and 2006 CAA championship
· Set the CAA record in the 100 free (44.30) in 2006

Frank Byskov - American - 1998-2001 - Viborg, Denmark
· Named CAA Swimmer of the Year in 1999 and 2000 and CAA Rookie of the Year in 1998
· 13-time CAA Champion, including four titles in the 1650 free and three in the 200 free
· Earned Academic All-America honors in 1998, 1999 and 2000

Cameron Charlton - George Mason - 2000-03 - Ontario, Canada
· Two-time CAA Champion in the 200 breaststroke (2000, 2002)
· Captured the conference title in the 100 breaststroke in 2003
· Set Mason school records in the 100 and 200 breast

Matt Craven - Old Dominion - 1995-98 - Walpole, Mass.
· Two-time NCAA B Qualifier in the 50 and 100 free (1997,1998)
· Eight-time CAA champion, including three titles in the 100 free
· Set ODU records in the 50 free, 100 free, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay

George Edelman - Richmond - 1987-89 -Wyomissing, Pa.
· Selected as the CAA Athlete of the Year in 1989
· Captured three straight CAA titles in the 500 free (1987-89)
· Was a two-time CAA champion in the 200 and 1650 free

Burak Erdem - UNC Wilmington - 1992-95 - Ankara, Turkey
· Seven-time CAA champion, including four straight titles in the 200 backstroke
· Member of UNCW's CAA champion 200 free relay team in 1994 and 1995
· Received UNCW's Outstanding Swimmer Award in 2004 and 2005

Roger Font - American - 1994-97 - Barcelona, Spain
· CAA Swimmer of the Year and All-American in 1996
· Six-time CAA champion, including four titles in the 200 butterfly
· Chosen as an Academic All-American in 1996 and 1997

Ryan Frost - James Madison - 1993-97 - Potomac, Md.
· CAA Swimmer of the Year and CAA Outstanding Meet Performer in 1997
· 18-time CAA champion, including four titles in the 100 breaststroke
· Set JMU school records in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 400 medley relay

Mark Gabriele - James Madison - 1991-95 -Timonium, Md.
· CAA Swimmer of the Year and CAA Outstanding Meet Performer in 1995
· 22-time CAA champion, including four titles in the 100 butterfly
· Set four JMU records and two CAA records (100 fly and 200 IM)

Dan Gallagher - UNC Wilmington - 2000-02 - Clemmons, N.C.
· Earned NCAA All-America honors in 2002 after finishing fourth in the 50 free
· CAA Swimmer of the Year and Outstanding Meet Performer in 2002
· Placed sixth in the 50 free at the 2004 Olympic Trials

Chris Hauth - American - 1990-93 - Germany
· CAA Swimmer of the Year in 1993 and two-time CAA Outstanding Meet Performer
· 10-time CAA Champion, including four titles in the 400 individual medley
· Twice represented Germany in the Olympic Games

Don Hosier - UNC Wilmington - 1984-87 - Wilmington, N.C.
· CAA Champion in the 200 butterfly in 1986 and 1987
· CAA Champion in the 500 freestyle in 1986
· Received UNCW's Outstanding Swimmer award in 1985, 1986 and 1987

Frederick Hviid - American - 1992-95 - Gran Canaria, Spain
· CAA Swimmer of the Year in 1993 and 1994 who earned All-America honors in 1993
· Eight-time CAA champion, including three titles in the 1650 free and 200 IM
· Twice represented Spain in the Olympic Games (1996, 2000)

Glen Kaplan - Old Dominion - 1994-98 - Plano, Tex.
· Three-time NCAA "B" Qualifier (1996, 1997, 1998)
· Seven-time CAA champion, including titles in the 200, 500 and 1650 free
· CAA Outstanding Meet Performer in 1996

Tom Koucheravy - George Mason - 2003-07 - Fairfax, Va.
· CAA Swimmer of the Year in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and Rookie of the Year in 2004
· Earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 500 free and 1650 free in 2006
· 11-time CAA champion including four titles and a CAA record in the 1650 free

Aaron Krause - Towson - 2000-04 - Linthicum, Md.
· CAA Swimmer of the Year and Outstanding Meet Performer in 2003 and 2004
· 13-time CAA Champion, including three titles in the 100 and 200 backstroke
· NCAA qualifier in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 free

Sergio Lopez - American - 1990-91 - Spain
· Two-time Olympian for Spain who earned a bronze medal in the 200 breast in 1988
· CAA Swimmer of the Year in 1990 and 1991 and All-America honoree in 1990
· 12-time CAA champion who owns school records in the 200 breast and 500 free

Shawn McLane - William & Mary - 1983-86 - Williamsburg, Va.
· Two-time All-American on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards (1985, 1986)
· Eastern State Champion on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards in 1984 and 1986
· Owns William and Mary 1-meter (357.90) and 3-meter (389.40) records

Tim Norton - George Mason - 2002-06 - Virginia Beach, Va.
· Selected as the CAA Rookie Swimmer of the Year in 2003
· Won four straight CAA titles in the 400 individual medley (2003-07)
· Captured seven individual and one team CAA championship in career

Randy Parker - James Madison - 1985-88 - Newport News, Va.
· Earned CAA Athlete of the Year honors in 1986, 1987 and 1988
· 11-time CAA champion, including three titles in the 100 free
· Set the JMU record in the 100 free (44.63) in 1988

Anthony Perry - Drexel - 2000-04 - Doylestown, Pa.
· Three-time NCAA qualifier on the 3-meter board and two-time qualifier on the 1-meter
· Selected as the CAA Diver of the Year in 2003 and 2004
· Earned honorable mention All-America honors in 2003

David Tyler - James Madison - 1990-92 - Wellington, Fla.
· Selected as the CAA Co-Swimmer of the Year in 1992
· Nine-time CAA champion, including titles in the 200, 500 and 1650 free
· Was a member of four winning relay teams at the 1992 CAA Championship

John Wenham - Old Dominion - 1994-98 - Indian Trail, N.C.
· Two-time CAA Champion in the 200 and 400 individual medley
· Qualified for the NCAA Championship in 1996
· Four-time team MVP who set school records in the 200 and 400 IM
