MONTREAL- ODU Swimming Assistant Coach Jacqueline Yost, Head Manager for the US National Swimming/Diving team, headed to Montreal last week for the World Swimming Championships. The event, held from July 17th to July 31st, hosts many of the biggest names in swimming- including Olympic gold medallists Michael Phelps, Ian Thorpe, and Tom Dolan- in Olympic level competition.

Along with Coach Yost, another Monarch is participating in the World Championships. ODU recruit Bradford Worrell, from the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, earned the opportunity to compete in the championships by posting the best times in the 50 and 100 freestyle in his country. He finished 87th out of 130 competitors in the 100 freestyle at the championships, and will also be participating in the 50 freestyle event when it commences on the 30th.

Head Coach Carol Withus is proud to see two Monarchs making a name on the world level, and for the fact that it is the first time in program history that Monarchs have been on a coaching staff and a swim team at the World Swimming Championships.

"It is a great honor to have Jackie on our coaching staff, as she is very knowledgeable," said Withus. "Worrell will be a great addition to the team in 2005, and has a tremendous background and talent," she added.

Currently the United States team leads the medals table with 23 overall, including 10 gold medals.
