Norfolk, VA - Two members of the Old Dominion women's swimming and diving team have been selected as the Women's Swimmer and Women's Diver of the Year by the Colonial Athletic Association.

Kara Fichthorn (Landsdowne, PA) was selected as the Women's Swimmer of the Year while teammate Ashley Kirchner (Arlington, VA) was named Women's Diver of the Year.

Fichthorn finished a dominating year by winning the 200 butterfly, 200 IM and 400 IM at the CAA Championships. Her time in the 400 IM set a new CAA meet record, and she was rewarded by being named the Outstanding Women's Performer of the meet.

Kirchner, the 2000 CAA Rookie Diver of the Year, swept the 1 meter and 3 meter competitions at the 2001 CAA Championships. In addition, she competed at the NCAA Deep Zone Regionals for the second year in a row.

The Old Dominion women's swimming and diving team finished third in the CAA and will return all but two members next year.
