The James Madison University 400-yard freestyle relay broke a 16-year old pool record to put the exclamation point on a 130-86 victory against visiting Old Dominion in Colonial Athletic Association men's swimming and diving Saturday afternoon.

The team of junior Geoff Meyer, junior Mike Nicholas, junior Jeff Hicks and senior John McLaren go into the JMU record books with a Savage Natatorium standard of three minutes and 5.62 seconds. The previous mark of 3:06.85 was set on Feb. 14 1987 by JMU's Steve Miller, Randy Parker, Mike Hurley and Mike Gough.

Old Dominion had a trio of individual winners. Sophomore Tommy Dingus (Falls Church, Va./Falls Church) swept the diving (257.85-three meter; 220.20-one meter); freshman Jimmy Jones (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.56); and freshman Nate Tschohl (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.25).

Hicks, McLaren, Meyer and junior Aaron Nester (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) teamed to win the 400-yard medley relay to start the Dukes on their way to the team victory. The group clocked in at 3:26.43.

The ODU swimming and diving team will be home next Friday and Saturday for the final time this season as they host Davidson, North Carolina, and William and Mary in their annual Scholarship Meet. All proceeds from tickets sales will go toward athletic scholarships.
