Arni Arnason Qualifies for NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion senior Arni Arnason (Mosfellsbaer, Iceland) has qualified for the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in the 100 breaststroke it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Co-hosted by the Seattle Sports Commission and Seattle University at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be held in Federal Way, Washington, March 22-24.
Arnason qualified for his second NCAA Championship appearance by swimming the 100 breaststroke in a time of 53.02 at the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, which was not only a CAA and ODU record, but was the 11th fastest time in the country this season.
A member of the 2008 Icelandic Olympic Team, Arnason was a five-time CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week in 2012 and earned his second straight CAA Championship "Most Outstanding Swimmer" honor after taking home titles in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, and as a member of the 400 medley relay squad.
Arnason last competed at the NCAA Championships as a freshman in 2009 where he placed 25th in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries (53.89), took 42nd in the 50 freestyle preliminaries (19.92), and came in 21st in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries (1:56.54).
