Swimming and Diving Hosts Drexel Saturday in Home Opener

NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion swimming and diving team will host the Drexel Dragons Saturday at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool, inside the ODU Field House, in their first home swim meet of the season.  Diving begins at 10:00 AM, while swimming starts at 1:00 PM.  The men's and women's teams both went 2-0 in a tri-meet at Virginia Military Institute last Saturday.  The men defeated VMI 117-79 and Canisius 107-62, while the women defeated Radford 120-84 and Canisius 114-86.

The women defeated the Dragons in last year's meet in Philadelphia, winning 133-94.  The men dropped a 126-112 decision.  On the women's team, Lauren Timby (Rochester, NY) won three events: the 200 freestyle (1:55.72), the 1000 freestyle (10:16.53) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.81). Liane Publow (Las Vegas, NV) won two events: the 200 IM (2:14.36) and the 200 butterfly (2:12.56). Samantha Combs (Travelers Rest, SC) also won two events: the 50 freestyle (24.97) and the 100 freestyle (54.41).

On the men's side, Ryan Kletz (Virginia Beach, VA) won the 1000 freestyle (10:05.11), Nate Tschohl (Chesapeake, VA) won the 200 butterfly (1:59.38), Michael DeNise (Midlothian, VA) won the 500 freestyle (4:49.01) and Martin Lundgren (Vaxjo, Sweden) won the 200 breaststroke (2:17.53).
