Monarchs Swimming Results At the Nike Cup Championships.

CHAPEL HILL, NC (Nov. 21) -- Old Dominion's men's swimming and diving team finished in fifth-place after the final day of competition in the Nike Cup Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of North Carolina. The women's team, led by freshman Jamie D'Agostino's (Ardsley, NY) second-place finish in the women's 1650-free (16:49.03), wound up ninth.

The #23 North Carolina Tar Heels won the men's division with 1072 points, followed by LSU with 735.50, Texas A&M with 713.50, Syracuse with 393.5 and Old Dominion with 249. The 18th-ranked UNC women's team won the women's division with 1261 points, followed by LSU (713), Kentucky (457), Connecticut (385.5) and Syracuse (318).

On the third and final day of competition, the Monarchs received solid performances both in the pool and on the diving boards. Senior Jimmy Sullivan (West Palm Beach, FL) finished in fourth-place in the men's 1650 with a time of 15:55.98, while freshman John Wall (Hoover, AL) finished in eighth-place with a time of 16:08.55.

On the boards, Kevin Harrison (Bethpage, NY) finished eighth in the three-meter competition, while Damion Patton (Reading, PA) finished in tenth.

For the Lady Monarchs, D'Agostino blistered the field with a time of 16:49.03 in the 1650, her second top-five performance of the competition, while freshman Anne Chapman (Springfield, VA) finished 11th in the 1650 with a time of 17:45.79. Sarah Mooney (Riverside, RI) turned in a 13th-place finish in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.51.

The Nike Cup Championships mark the end of swimming competition in 1999 for Old Dominion, the teams return to action in 2000 when they swim NC State and Texas Christian in Raleigh, NC, on January 21.
