ODU Swimming Records A Double-Win Against Patriots

NORFOLK, VA (Oct. 28) - The Old Dominion University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated George Mason on Oct. 28 to start the season at 1-0 overall, 1-0 CAA.

Both the Monarch and Lady Monarch swim teams dominated from the start, with the men capturing first place in 10 events while the women won 12 races against the Patriots. Pacing the women's side were Sarah Mooney (Riverside, RI) who won the 200 IM and 100 free, and Jamie D'Agostino (Ardsley, NY) who won in the 1000 free, 200 free, and 500 free. Diver Ashley Kirchner (Arlington, VA) took first in the 1m and 3m diving.

In men's competition, both Mark VanDeren (Newport News, VA) and Mark Giusto (Va. Beach, VA) won two events each to pace the Monarchs to a 128-104 victory.

Both swimming and diving squads will return to action on Nov. 4 when they host CAA foe East Carolina at 10 a.m.
