Norfolk, Va. -- The William & Mary women's swimming and diving team ended the two-day ODU quad meet with Old Dominion, American University, and UNC-Wilmington undefeated with a record of 2-0-1. The men's team triumphed over ODU, but fell to AU and UNC-W.

After trailing in two of the three dual meets at the end of day 1, the women (4-5-1, 4-2-1 CAA) finished day 2 with four first place finishes to forge ahead of its opponents. The Tribe defeated UNC-W (190-162) and American (181.5-157.5) and tied ODU (175.5-175.5).

The meet came down to the last race between ODU and the Tribe, with W&M trailing by five points. To have any chance of winning or at least tieing the Monarchs, the Tribe had to finish first in the 400 free relay. Stephanie Fenix (Springfield, Va.), Katie Hiles (Stafford, Va.), Ruth Anne Miller (Williamsburg, Va.), and Alyssa Lengle (Arlington, Va.) came through with a season-best performance of 3:36.71 to take first place and tie ODU.

Laura Bodine (Millersville, Md.) tied an ODU swimmer for first place in the 200 IM (2:09.22, season best) to set up the deadlock. In addition to the first-place finish in the 400 free relay, Lengle claimed first in the 100 free with a time of 53.86, and teamed up with Hiles, Emily Greene (Alexandria, Va.), and Liz Koch (Pittsburgh, Penn) in the 400 medley relay to capture first.

The men's team (3-5, 3-3 CAA) finished the two-day meet with a 1-2 record overall, crushing ODU (188-158), but succumbing to American (212-135) and UNC-W (204-148).

The only Tribe victory in the meet was Josh Osterberg's (Newton, Mass.) first place finish in the 200 backstroke when he set a new season best time of 1:53.68. In the 100 back, Osterberg claimed second with a 53.10.

Including Osterberg's second place finish, the Green and Gold started the meet well with three second place finishes in the first four events. Both freshman Clark Noble (Gainesville, Ga.) in the 1650 freestyle with a 16:24.91 and the 200 freestyle relay team of Mark Sinder (Champaign, Ill.), Osterberg, Chris Hanley (Davidsonville, Md.), and Rusty Hodgson (Upper Montclair, NJ) claimed second.

The Tribe will return to the Rec Center pool Feb. 3 for Parent's Day and Senior Day to face the Dukes of James Madison. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
